Fifteen-year-old Lani leads a double life. Her family thinks she's simply an obedient church girl, but only her online best friend, Sam, knows her as an intergalactic piratress in their favorite online gaming community. When Sam unexpectedly dies, Lani's world comes crashing down.

After transferring schools, Lani vows to keep her head down and lose herself in her online persona until graduation, when she'll finally be free to embrace her identity and not just the parts approved by her ultra-religious mom. But everything changes when she receives a cryptic message promising insight into Sam's death.
